Heels Novice

I'd a pair of black leather heels, bought for the sole purpose of completing my professional attire ensemble for my first professional interview. Last Saturday on an impulse (and due largely to a lack of selection) I decided to wear them to town.

It was a terrible mistake, never to be repeated.

Before the hour was up, I was unable to walk another step even if I forced myself to. The trouble spots at the front, sides and back of my feet were red as sunset and painfully numbed. I felt like one of those supposedly privileged women of the past who had bonded their feet to no bigger than the can drink that you just purchased from your favorite kopitiam auntie.

I was desperate. A replacement was crucial. It came in the form of another pair of heels (no more leather!), costing one-third the price of its predecessor. The day was expectedly shortened since I was obviously very much crippled.

The story would have ended here, but Monet commented that day that I looked almost unnatural walking in my heels (I was an adidas girl), and that this was detrimental to a desired professional image. So determinedly I wore the newcomer of the shoe rack again yesterday. Surprise! I didn't have another smarting experience, even though I had to walk a tad more deliberately than in my usual sneakers wear. Of course it helped that it was no more than a short distance. An encouraging start, nevertheless, to my quest of being a natural in heels.

Tomorrow shall be practice two. Wish me luck.

ps: so you see, LDepp, you are not the only with shoe trouble. Heels!
