Tell me why I'm not looking fwd to the next one
Yesterday I met up with one of my NY cliques.
One of them just made a career switch. She is currently a “financial advisor”. Her enthusiasm to share her knowledge was apparent, however limited her grasp of financial planning may be. For almost an hour, our financial status was probed into. I was almost taking the brunt of the interrogation simply due to a contemplation on my part of an extended overseas exploration of the West. She felt that I was ‘overspending’, attacking what she assumed was my expenditure pattern with baseless judgments, while I defended myself almost half-heartedly, just so as not to appear too passive.
She had come on too strong in an attempt to appear au fait and all clued-up in an industry she hardly knew much about. Fortunately or unfortunately, both my friend and I who majored in finance knew the gist of the workings of the financial planning sector and so could easily see thru the fallacies of her speeches and her lack of perspicacity, especially where it concerned investments.
She is a good friend, and I'd looked forward to catching up with her after 8 months. But yesterday’s dinner was somewhat dampened when she made groundless assumptions on sensitive issues.
*Sigh* Tell me why I'm not looking fwd to the next gathering.
