Happenings
Since my last academic paper, a couple of girlfriends in my inner circle of associates have been professionally attached; two to companies they have previously hoped to work in, another doing a 10-month attachment. I’m not only happy for them, but undoubtedly proud of them as well, as they continue their commitments in the respective industries they have chosen at the beginning of their tertiary education.
For myself, due to my anticipation of some less-than-desirable grades in a couple of the final papers, I’ve not been able to make a definite decision with regards to the direction of my life from this point forth, tho’ I’ve had prepared several alternatives pertaining to the road I would take before/as I take my position in the infamous Rat Race.
I’d my first interview last Friday for the position of a Management Trainee. It lasted more than 3 hours, infusing a written assessment, a hands-on mock project-cum-presentation and a group interview. Questions of the written test were rather thought provoking, tho’ it reminded me strongly of my academic papers with a “choose qn 1 OR 2 AND qn 3 OR 4” kind of choice. The interview itself had been the most predictable, with the usual cliché qns. Looking back I concluded that a personal highlight of the whole experience was undeniably, the opportunity to handle the marketing aspect of the management project. Ironically any expected anxiety of a first professional interview was eradicated by the fact that I wasn’t expecting to get the position since it was hotly contested by the crème of the crop of the local uni graduates. I’d gone for it a taste of an interview, and a rather stimulating one it proved to be.
I also went for my first church camp since don’t-know-how-many-ages-ago. Ironically I was more restrained at the camp than at the interview. Haha. Supper on the 1st night was the best; we had my fave snack and drink: donuts and milo. I played basketball with Elvis and exaggeratedly sprained one half of my hip. It was bad, tho I recovered pretty quickly, where I then continued my “centre” position of the game. Someone commented I was, by a girl’s standards, strong in my shots. Hey you are talking about a NY centre position [candidate] player here hor. Heh. After a restless night I was depraved by someone to abandon my position and climbed out of the great white gates of St Francis Methodist Sch at barely 6am in the morning. Tsk tsk. Someone is definitely going to burst into flames if and should he steps into a church.
